Community Question: How does your fitness routine change in the Winter months? The Northwest is known for its expansive natural beauty and an abundance of outdoor activities, but cold weather and rain can easily dampen anyone’s personal fitness routine. What activities are tried and true when the good weather wanes? Do these activities differ from the Summer months? How do you motivate yourself to workout while the days are shorter?

Whether you hit the gym regularly, practice yoga, or walk on your lunch hour, daily physical activity is integral to sustaining vibrant health. We’re interested in hearing what works for you!

    I commute by bike, and it does get hard to stay motivated during the winter months. What has helped me is committing to the idea that I’m not going to look nearly as hip in the winter as I do in the summer. I’ve got my legwarmers on, scarf wrapped around half my face, and giant puffy gloves on. It’s not very attractive, but at least I’m willing to stay riding and get my exercise, even when it’s cold & wet outside. I’d rather be warm and look weird than be freezing cold. It keeps me from wimping out and jumping on the bus.
