Portland area doctor offers double chin injections known as Kybella
In April of 2015, the United States Food and Drug Administration approved a drug called Kybella for cosmetic use to address the dreaded “double chin.”
Many patients experience submental fullness, the medical term for a “double chin.” In the past, the only way to correct this issue was with liposuction, chin implants, and a neck lift, but this has completely changed with the introduction of Kybella injections. Kybella is formulated from deoxycholic acid, which can be used to absorb fat where it is injected. When administered into the chin area, it can destroy fat cells and reduce the appearance of the double chin. It is a wonderful alternative to surgery, which was once the only way of addressing the problem.
Kybella is a series of injections, approximately 15 per visit, which are used to target trouble areas of the chin. Most patients benefit from two to three visits over the course of several months with each appointment lasting approximately 15 minutes. The results are gradual and can improve over the course of several months as the fat is absorbed by the body. Clinical trials have shown that many patients were satisfied with the results and enjoyed the ability to see them without having to go under the knife for extensive surgery.
When Kybella has achieved results, some patients may experience sagging skin on the neck once the fat has been absorbed. At Thrive, we offer skin-tightening services that are non-invasive, such as Exilis. This radio frequency treatment can lift and tighten the skin on the neck and further improve the results achieved with Kybella injections for the double chin. Dr. Adam Maddox of Thrive can discuss with patients the combination of services that can be used for optimum results with Kybella and other treatments for contouring the chin area.
