Why Portland, OR patients love LaseMD skin rejuvenation treatment
Are the years beginning to take a toll on your skin? Are you looking for a way to turn back the clock without painful recovery, downtime, or the inconvenience of multiple appointments? If so, ask Dr. Maddox if LaseMD treatment is right for you. It is one of several state-of-the-art aesthetic medical devices that we use at Thrive Aesthetic & Anti-Aging Center here in Portland, OR.
What is LaseMD
Laser resurfacing has long been the go-to solution for anti-aging, sun damage, and general skin rejuvenation. The technology continues improving and advancing to this day. First-generation aesthetic lasers were fully ablative, meaning that they completely stripped away the upper layer of skin, yielding dramatic results but requiring significant downtime. Milder, fully non-ablative devices stimulated rejuvenation without removing or damaging skin, for mild improvement with no downtime.
Fractional technology revolutionized laser resurfacing, giving patients an option between the extremes of very aggressive or very mild treatment. It separates a single light beam into many pinpoints, or fractions. Instead of removing an entire layer of skin, the fractional laser treats a multitude of tiny spots, with islands of unaffected tissue between them. This type of laser resurfacing is gentler, lower risk, and faster healing than ablative methods, but much more powerful than standard non-ablative.
LaseMD takes laser treatment to yet a new level. No longer are patients limited to just a few basic options. With fully adjustable fractionated laser energy, treatment can range from mild to aggressive, or anywhere in-between. LaseMD creates “micro-wounds,” but it does not remove skin. It is considered a non-ablative laser, yet it can achieve dramatic skin improvement. Furthermore, the system is designed to work with specially formulated therapeutic serums and masks, which can enhance healing and target specific skin concerns.
What can LaseMD do for you?
LaseMD is a 1927 nm laser, which is exceptionally effective in targeting pigmentation problems, while simultaneously enhancing collagen remodeling. It is gentle enough for delicate areas such as the face, neck, and décolletage, and safe for all skin types and tones. It may be used to treat a wide variety of aesthetic concerns including:
- Large pores
- Uneven skin tone
- Pigmentation (dark areas) including melasma
- Rough or leathery skin texture
- Sun damage
- Poor complexion
- Actinic keratosis and other benign skin lesions
In addition to the many wonderful benefits of LaseMD as a standalone treatment, it also makes a wonderful adjunct to other aesthetic procedures. Dr. Maddox often combines it with Lutronic Clarity and Vanquish ME. Whereas LaseMD excels in improving skin tone and treating pigmentation, Clarity targets vascular lesions and wrinkles. Finally, Vanquish melts away the fat and sculpts your body. Bring the three together and you have comprehensive, head-to-toe, antiaging and rejuvenation.
About the LaseMD procedure
The first step is an evaluation and consultation, during which we will determine if you are a candidate for LaseMD, as well as discussing potential alternatives. Because LaseMD is so gentle, it is safe for virtually anyone. It is likely an excellent choice if you have concerns about skin tone and texture. If you decide that LaseMD is the right choice for you, we will discuss a treatment schedule. Most patients see impressive improvement after just one appointment, but the best results are typically achieved with about three sessions, spaced approximately one week apart.
The procedure is fast and comfortable. It usually takes from six to twenty minutes, depending on the area being treated. You might notice slight redness immediately after LaseMD, which looks a bit like a very mild sunburn. This typically fades within a few hours to a couple of days. You will be able to resume your normal activities right away with no downtime.
Most patients begin noticing skin improvement just a few days after the first LaseMD session, with smoother skin and a more even tone. However, because this procedure also stimulates natural collagen remodeling, results will continue developing for several months after the final session.
