Dr. Maddox and the team of skilled medical professionals at Thrive, in Portland OR have a common goal, and that is to help you look and feel your best every day! We are proud to provide a comprehensive array of antiaging treatments. For those who have experienced significant facial volume loss, and who are serious about seeking long-lasting results, Radiesse tissue filler is a natural choice.
As you may know, volume loss is among the most significant causes of facial aging. Over time, many natural processes within the body slow. Among these is the production of collagen, an essential component in skin firmness and volume. Meanwhile, the network of existing collagen begins to weaken, which worsens laxity. Dermal fillers are designed to add volume, replacing what time has stolen. Radiesse takes this concept a step further, and also helps your body restore its own volume, naturally.
Like many fillers, Radiesse is a smooth gel that instantly adds volume wherever it is injected. However, it also contains a very special ingredient, which keeps working long after the gel has metabolized. It is called calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA), which might sound like and exotic chemical, but it is a compound naturally present in human bones. The CaHA used to make Radiesse is synthetically produced, but chemically identical to that in the body. Therefore, it is well tolerated with adverse reactions being extremely rare.
Radiesse filler is densely packed with tiny microbeads of CaHA. They are eventually metabolized, but last much longer than the surrounding gel. Even more importantly, these microbeads add structure to the tissue, creating a scaffold effect that facilitates collagen remodeling. This has a dual benefit of stimulating collagen production, and helping the body create a structure for skin volume. Therefore, the beauty of Radiesse lasts long after the filler is gone.
What Radiesse treatment can do for you
If you are unhappy with the “deflated,” sagging appearance of skin, then you are probably a candidate for Radiesse. It is an FDA approved filler and considered safe for most adults. This versatile and long-lasting formula can be used in most areas where significant volume loss has occurred.
Can Radiesse help you? If your cosmetic concerns include any of the following, the answer is probably “yes.”
- Wrinkling of the chin – You have horizontal lines in the chin area, which detract from your dazzling smile
- The pre-jowl – You don’t quite have jowls yet, but there is noticeable sagging of the skin at the sides of your chin
- Perpetual frown – The corners of your mouth are downturned when your face is relaxed
- Marionette lines – Lines or folds extend from the corners of your mouth toward your chin
- Smile lines – You have folds extending from the corners of your mouth upward toward your nose, which are most noticeable when smiling
What to expect – Radiesse procedure and results
You will find the Radiesse procedure to be fast and convenient. With our precision injection techniques, most patients experience minimal discomfort during the procedure. Immediately after your appointment, you may experience some soreness and discomfort in the treatment area. There may also be some visible redness, bruising, or swelling. These are normal side effects, and generally fade within several days.
Radiesse has no downtime, and you can use cosmetics to cover any redness. However, you will need be careful not to put excess pressure on the injection site for the first day or two. We also recommend avoiding hot baths, saunas, and similar situations after injections, because heat may aggravate initial swelling. For the same reason, it’s best to wait a day or so before strenuous exercise.
Within about a week of treatment, any swelling should subside, leaving only beautiful and natural looking volume. The clear carrier gel is metabolized first, and the microbeads will metabolize much more slowly. However, the volume remains long after the product is gone, due to new collagen production. The results of Radiesse typically last up to a year, and for many patients they last even longer. We will work with you to determine the best schedule for touch-up maintenance appointments, based on your unique experience.
